Tournament Information 2020

The 10th Amsterdam international summer chess tournament will take place from July 4-12, 2020. The playing conditions will be perfect in a high-tech, sportive and inspiring environment.
 
Chess and Science at Amsterdam Science Park  
At Amsterdam Science Park  you are surrounded by renowned scientists, researchers, high-tech companies, an impressive beta faculty and ambitious students. The playing venue is the modern sports centre Universum.


Amsterdam Science Park offers several cozy bars and restaurants and it has excellent access by bicycle, public transport and car. Amsterdam is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and two thirds of the hotels are located in the city's centre.

There are six different groups:

Schedule: 4 - 12 July 2019
Format: 9 rounds, Swiss system. One round per day. 
Rate of play: 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game; with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the start 
Start of the games
: Rounds 1 - 8 will start at 14:00 hrs. The 9th round will start at 12:00 hrs

Groups

A - rating higher than 2000
B - 1750 – 2050
C - 1500 – 1800
D - rating lower than 1550
Three-round-events - open

When you have both FIDE- as national rating, the highest rating is decisive. So, a player rated Fide 1950 and national 2100 is only allowed to play in Group A. However, the organization may decide otherwise in some circumstances.


Rate of play

The rate of play for each player is 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game; with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the start. In every group there will be played nine rounds, based on the “Swiss system”. Every day the games will be started at 14:00 hrs the last round will be started at 12:00 hrs. NB: The FIDE Laws will apply, except article 6.6a. The rule will be instead: A player, not present at the chessboard within one hour after the scheduled time to start, loses the game, unless the arbiter sees a good reason to decide otherwise.


Schedule

Saturday 4 July:
11:30 – 13:00 hrs registration; opening 13:50 hrs
Saturday 4 July - Saturday 11 July:
14:00 hrs rounds 1 - 8
Sunday 12 July:
12:00 hrs round 9; followed by prize giving.


Ratings

In all four groups the results will be reported for rating to both FIDE and KNSB (Dutch federation).
The three-round-events will be reported for rating to the KNSB.


Entry Fee

To be paid during registration or at registration on Saturday 4 July from 11:30 till 13:00 hrs:
A - € 65 - (W)FM € 40; no fee for (W)IM and higher
B - € 60
C - € 60
D - € 60
Three-round events - € 25
Junior players (born after 31-12 - 2003) : € 40 for group A, B, C and D.

The prize fund is guaranteed by a minimum of 200 participants in the A, B, C and D groups.

Format: 3 rounds, all play all 
Rate of play: 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the start

: All rounds will start at 14:00 hrs.
Rating: the results will be reported to KNSB (Dutch federation)

- Weekend
Schedule: Friday 10, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July 2020
Format: 3 rounds, all play all 
Rate of play: 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the start 
Start of the games
: Friday and Saturday: 14:00 hrs, Sunday 12:00 hrs.
Rating: the results will be reported to KNSB (Dutch federation)
